Active Server Pages or ASP, dynamically generates the HTML pages that your browser sees. It enables programs and databases to be integrated into web pages. ASP is run on the web site's server allowing the web page to function regardless of which browser the viewer is using.

ASP can do just about anything and the possibilities are endless. Some key uses include creating web pages based on database searches, personalized pages, online shops, password protection, games and form processing.

At the core of ASP is JavaScript, VBScript, or PerlScript, ( often referred to as 'Scripting Languages' ). One or more of these scripting languages are integrated into your Web pages. The scripting language or code is compiled on-the-fly by the server and the resulting output to the user is standard HTML. By using Active Server Pages, Web pages can be dynamic, full of ever-changing content, and browser independent.

You can also integrate ASP into Flash for dynamic and interactive web sites.
